Francesco Cuoghi

Graduated in guitar from the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples under the guidance of Bruno Battisti D'Amario, he attended the seminars of the Chigiana Music Academy in Siena, the Atelier de Recherche Instrumentale at IRCAM in Paris, and the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt.  He privately studied composition with Nazario Carlo Bellandi and Aldo Clementi, as well as electronic music (Max/MSP) at the F.P.A. dell’Ottava in Rome. He has held the position of guitar professor at the G. Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro and the L. Cherubini Conservatory in Florence  . He currently teaches at the Eschilo School of Music in Rome.

He performs on replicas of period instruments as well as various modern instruments, including a ten-string guitar, electric guitar, and MIDI guitar. Since 1985, he has been performing works with live electronics using various electroacoustic devices. With the advent of the new generation of microprocessors, he has adopted dedicated audio-video software such as: Max/MSP/Jitter, Csound, and others.

He is active as a concert performer both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. He has performed in Italy and across Europe in festivals such as the Festival of Foreign Academies (Rome), Fabrikomposition (Zurich), Concert de Ville (Geneva), The Church of Vivaldi in Venice (Venice), and Contemporanea-Musica nel nostro tempo (Teramo), among others. Particularly engaged in contemporary music, he has been a member of the Ex Novo Ensemble in Venice and the Gruppo di Roma (conducted by G. Sinopoli). He has premiered works by F. Pennisi, A. Brizzi, M. Molteni, G. Giuliano, E. Zaffiri, M. Giri, and W. Branchi, recording for Edipan, Rugginenti, and R.A.I.

In 1986, he co-founded theOrphée Musical Association in Pesaro, dedicated to promoting plucked string instruments (guitar, harp, harpsichord, lute), and serves as the artistic director of the Ensemble Orphée. Through the association, he has been continuously engaged in musical activities, including concerts, masterclasses (Gradara, Orta San Giulio), and conferences such as *Minimal Music*, *Anton Webern*, *Roland Barthes and Music*, *Giovanna Sandri*, and *Notation* (Urbino, Rome). He has published articles on topics such as A. Hába, B. Maderna, and Steve Reich.

From 1996 to 2016, he organized the Musical Seminars at Orta San Giulio (Novara) without interruption. This initiative combined concerts, seminars, and masterclasses, bringing together musicians and students. Over the years, the Orta San Giulio Seminars have featured collaborations with figures such as Roberto Leydi, Angelo Gilardino, Laura Pariani, Cesare Bermani, Luigi Pestalozza, Francesco Degrada, Roberto Noferini, Maurizio Barbetti, Floraleda Sacchi, Carlo Lazari, Febo Guizzi, and others.

He currently resides in Rome.
