The electric guitar used by Costin Miereanu (1943) employs various acoustic and electronic devices. Among these, the wah-wah pedal stands out as the central instrument of the composition. Miereanu calibrates the timbral levels to blend the tape and electric guitar interventions with the constant use of the wah-wah pedal. The resulting sound is a composition of great timbral and emotional impact. Quatrième voyage d'hiver provides an insight into how the dimension of the electric guitar and its continually evolving technique has a special relationship with electronic music. The electric and analog dimensions are particularly emphasized by Miereanu. Performing the piece requires precise research on the purely electric sound of the guitar and the ability to regulate and synchronize the pedal.
Wah Wah
is undoubtedly one of the instruments that remains justifiably in the analog domain. Digital encoding does not capture the analog nature of sound processing.
