My Antique Instruments
Over the years, I have had the privilege of playing antique instruments that have profoundly enriched my musical experience, with a particular focus on the Baroque guitar and the Renaissance lute. My experience with the Baroque guitar has been especially significant, both from an educational and performance standpoint. Through the tablature courses at the Conservatory, I deepened my understanding of the techniques for reading ancient scores. This journey has been essential not only for understanding and performing Baroque repertoire but also for recognizing the importance and vastness of the Baroque repertoire, which has had a significant impact on 20th-century guitar music as well.
The instrument I played is a copy of a Baroque guitar kept at the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome. It is a guitar branded with the fire mark (M/G) "Magno Grail" from the 17th century (cataloged in the Galleria Armonica 1994), made by the luthier Carlo Angelo Cecconi. This instrument has played a fundamental role in my understanding of the musical tradition of the time.
In addition to my performance activity, I composed a piece for Baroque guitar and electronics, titled "Intabolatura IV" in eleven parts , created in collaboration with the artist Luciano Martinis.
The practice of the Baroque guitar and the creation of new works for this instrument have been pivotal experiences in my musical evolution, allowing me to blend tradition and innovation in a continuous dialogue between the past and the present.
